Chromosomes. Structure and function. (2009)

Publishing company of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences issued a book entitled "Chromosomes. Structure and function". The book in a condensed form presents modern conceptions about material vehicles of heredity – chromosomes. There are data about DNA of viruses, nucleoids of bacteria, DNA of plastids and mitochondria, mitotic, meiotic and interphase chromosomes. The problems of organisation of eu- and heterochromatin, nucleosomes, molecular mechanisms of epigenetic processes are discussed. Authors describe inheritance of chromosomes in life cycle and cell cycle of different organisms, sex determination and dosage compensation. Several chapters are devoted to chromatin diminution, centromeres and telomeres. Material consists of 18 chapters, divided in 3 parts, and is illusterted by 131 schemes and photographs, including more than 90 in colour. The book contains references, subject, name and other indexes. The book is addressed to students, PhD students, young researchers, and to all, who are interested in the problems of organisation and function of chromosomes.
